Cleaning Party

It was a lovely sunny March afternoon perfect time for a spring clean! Especially when you've invited people round to clean up after a week of no cleaning, a night of cooking curry and a morning of baking cakes! Liz from Enjo was happy to come round and demonstrate to my guests how we can clean our homes efficiently without chemicals, using just cold water and some nifty fabrics.

Having baked some cakes to lure neighbours and my boss round, the cleaning party began. Tea and fresh coffee were made and my guests were soon tucking into the cakes and chocolate fudge.

My neighbour Dan helped himself to some cake from his girlfriend Rachs plate and thought to himself 'cor this cake is minty'. Soon after he announced that the cake tasted differently to how he expected, at which point Rach noticed that the gum she had placed on her plate was missing! Oops!!

Liz then sat us all down and gave everyone an insight into the way Enjo had changed her cleaning habits and saved her time and money. We all had a go trying out various products and my kitchen got a good clean in the process.

I was very sceptical when my boss, a few months earlier, presented me with a cleaning product that just needed cold water to clean as effectively and even give me better results than my traditional cleaning products. Having been a responsible and conscientious cleaner I have always purchased 'greener' products found on supermarket shelves and even refilled bottles at my local deli.

Enjo products are designed to replace all the chemicals you use in your home and place of work. Since there is so much to take in, with preconceptions and habits to break, we focused specifically on the kitchen area. We started with the aluminium cooker hood, an area which is exposed to lots of grease and not looking too shiny after a weeks worth of use and no cleaning! Ed, armed only with a damp Enjo kitchen mitt and Enjo cloth, set to the task. We were all pleasantly surprised with the final results but also confused about how I managed to get my MD round to clean my greasy cooker hood on a Sunday afternoon!

With Ed having successfully tackled the cooker hood I tried out cleaning the hob which had also not been cleaned for a while (embarrassing to have to admit but I did invite guests round having not cleaned for a week which has dented my house-proud image immeasurably).

It was difficult to get my head around not scrubbing the really burnt-on remains of last nights curry as the Enjo kitchen mitt just needs some cold water and the lightest touch, Liz likened it stroking my cat.

Having previously tired out the Enjo kitchen kit I knew the results were going to be good, however I had not previously put them through such an extreme test, let alone in front of an audience but the results were fantastic.

Moving onto the floors Liz demonstrated sweeping using a nifty bit of kit that gets around all the corners and edges, collecting all the debris and dust which amazingly all stuck to the cloth.

We then used a damp Enjo cloth to mop up any spills and dirt before finally finishing with a cloth to dry the floor leaving it looking clean, shiny and grease free. We all had a good look at what the Enjo cloths had picked up from the previously dirty floor and it wasn’t too pleasant!

Liz came with the purpose of demonstrating that there are alternatives to using chemicals in our homes. We’ve all become accustomed to using different kinds of chemicals in our homes which would seem alien to the pre WW2 generation. Its easy to dismiss the idea that we no longer need these chemicals that have become the norm in homes throughout the western world and forget, or even dismiss, the negative ecological effects they have on the planet and on our personal health. I would encourage anyone to consider Enjo as an alternative to “normal” cleaning products. Not only do they work well as chemical cleaners but they reduce your impact on the environment and are lighter on your wallet.
